Fenómenos
Book design
I love to reimagine literary classics, envision what they would look like if they were written today, and yet honoring their mysticism and value as is written in history seems like an obligation. For this invented project, I designed a horror-themed collection of Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by R. L. Stevenson and Dracula, by Bram Stoker.
FRANKENSTEIN
The dust covers feature vector illustration that depict a transformation for each story - in Frankenstein’s case, being slashed through by electricity. To unify the collection, I created a series of elements that remain stagnant: the circles. They give movement and dimension while keeping the composition clean.
DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE
All three covers have the titles embossed on the dust cover and engraved in the inner cover - creating somewhat of an ‘invisible ink’ feeling. This tactile effect, added onto Fedrigoni’s Ispira soft touch paper, 170gr., gives the dust cover a more exclusive, high quality feel.
DRACULA
The collection runs in the complete opposite direction to the stereotypical horror publications. I created a light, bright and color-forward palette to a usually drab and dark genre. This provides a newness to the edition so, even if you own these heralded tomes already, you’ll want to own these, too.
